BYU has a Signing Day surprise: Cougars ink punter from Australia

Provo • After re-introducing all the recruits who had signed in December, BYU started off the traditional college football Signing Day with a surprise.

One of their first signings Wednesday was Danny Jones, a 6-foot-4, 223-pound punter from Essendon, Australia. Jones has attended La Trobe University and played Aussie rules football for the Birchip-Watchem Bulls and Bendigo Pioneers. He will replace Johnny Linehan, a former BYU rugby player from New Zealand who switched to football and became a serviceable punter for the Cougars.

Holker and Herron committed before December’s early signing period but chose not to sign that week.
