With the graduation of Jonny Linehan, BYU added a punter to its 2018 recruiting class with the signing of Australian punter Danny Jones. Jones is a former rugby player who comes to BYU from La Trobe University in Australia.
From his highlights, Jones is a left-footed punter who comes with a rugby background. At 6-4, 223 lbs Jones is also bigger than your average punter. With the success Linehan had with faking punts, however, I wouldn’t expect many fake punts from the big Aussie.
Although it would be expected that Jones will predominately do rugby style punts due to his background, the few highlights of him show him practicing normal punts in addition to the rugby style.
