BYU football notebook: Lene Lesatele to step in for suspended Sae Tautu

PROVO — Appeal denied.

It was previously reported that BYU would appeal the one-half game suspension of linebacker Sae Tautu stemming from his targeting penalty committed during last week's 20-16 loss to Missouri. Prior to Tuesday morning's interviews, Cougar coaches received the news that the penalty, upon further review, had been upheld.

The situation leaves the outside linebacker spot in a bit of jam.

“We’re really thin at that spot,” said outside linebackers coach Kelly Poppinga. “It leaves me with two of the 10 guys that I started fall camp with, so a lot of injuries and the suspension of Sione (Takitaki) and now with Sae.
