Last week, former BYU quarterback Jim McMahon was in Provo to mourn the loss of legendary Cougars coach LaVell Edwards.
Friday, it was announced that McMahon is the 16th Davey O'Brien Legends Award Recipient, completing a sweep for the former Super Bowl-winning quarterback. McMahon was the inaugural winner of the Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award in 1981.
"Well, this is pretty cool! Grateful to receive it," McMahon wrote on Twitter.
He is the first player to be honored by the Davey O'Brien Foundation as a collegian and following a professional career.
The 2016 Davey O'Brien award winner is national champion Clemson quarterback Deshaun Watson, who repeated.
