BYU basketball notebook: Emery to miss next game due to flagrant foul; issues apology

PROVO — On one play, BYU freshman Nick Emery took center stage of the BYU-Utah rivalry.

The Cougar guard threw a punch at Ute guard Brandon Taylor under the basket with 1:44 remaining in Utah’s 83-75 victory at the Huntsman Center Wednesday night. Emery was whistled for a flagrant 2 foul for fighting and was ejected.

On Thursday, the West Coast Conference reprimanded Emery for his actions and the flagrant 2 foul invoked the NCAA automatic one-game suspension. Emery will be sidelined for Saturday's game against Weber State at Vivint Arena.

Emery also issued an apology Thursday: "I apologize to Brandon Taylor for the incident that happened in the game last night.
