Amid a government shutdown, Ben McAdams holds his first town hall meeting as Utah’s newest congressman. And it stays cordial, border fights and all.

West Valley City • Ben McAdams, Utah’s newest Congressman, is a man trying to start his job while most everybody working for the shutdown U.S. government is either furloughed or working without pay.

The Democrat and former Salt Lake County mayor held his first town hall meeting Saturday even as politics swung wildly in the nation’s capital and forced the meeting to be rescheduled at the last minute. Immigration, health care and public lands came up several times during the hourlong event in West Valley City, amid the question-and-answer with members of an audience of about 120 people, all of the debate conducted in cordial terms.
