Chris Holtmann wouldn’t characterize Butler recruiting as scramble mode or catch-up. Yet upheaval of recent college basketball seasons has caused the Bulldogs to adopt a strategy they would not have used otherwise.
“We ultimately, philosophy-wise, want to continue to build with true youth – with high school and prep school players, and pepper in a transfer every now and then because they’ve been so good to Butler over the years,” the Butler coach said. “We’ve had to do it more than we typically would because of some of the unevenness of our recruiting.”
In rapid order, the Bulldogs went from Horizon League to Atlantic 10 to Big East, and from Brad Stevens to Brandon Miller to Holtmann.
