NEW YORK – Sean McDermott confesses he and his teammates may have gotten “complacent” after making the NCAA tournament in each of his first three seasons at Butler.

After going to the Big Dance four straight years (2015-18), Butler was an NIT team last season — falling short of reaching the program’s goals with a 16-17 overall record and a 7-11 mark in the Big East.

“Yeah, I got kind of complacent like it’s Butler, it’s going to happen every year, we’ll make it to the NCAA tournament,” McDermott, the 6-6 redshirt senior forward, said Thursday at Big East Media Day at Madison Square Garden.
