Strong second half lifts Butler in preseason finale

INDIANAPOLIS – Whatever it was that coach Chris Holtmann told the Butler Bulldogs at halftime must have been taken seriously.

The Bulldogs went on a 15-0 run soon after halftime, pulling away to beat Saginaw Valley State 77-50 in a basketball exhibition before a sellout crowd of 9,100 Saturday night at Hinkle Fieldhouse.

Butler, which shot 53 percent, led by seven points at halftime before extending that to as many as 29 in the second half.

Kelan Martin scored nine points in that second-half outburst, featuring two dunks and a 3-pointer. He shot 7-of-12 from the field and led Butler with 15 points in 25 minutes.
