New Butler assistant coach Mike Schrage jumped right into the recruiting maelstrom.

He has reached out to Victor Bailey Jr., a 6-3 guard ranked 80th by Rivals and 78th by 247 Sports in the 2017 class. Bailey, of McNeil High School in Austin, Texas, shared District 13-6A MVP honors with teammate Armoni Brooks, a Houston signee.

Bailey, nicknamed “V.J.,” has been dunking since he was an eighth-grader and comes from an athletic family.

His father, Victor Sr., is a former Missouri and NFL receiver. His mother, Tonja Buford-Bailey, won a bronze medal in the 400-meter hurdles at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics and now coaches sprinters and hurdlers at Texas.
