Purdue basketball 2019 target Mason Gillis of New Castle having surgery Friday

NEW CASTLE — Mason Gills, a Class of 2019 forward from New Castle and one of Purdue's top targets in the 2019 class, said he'll have surgery Friday to repair a small meniscus tear in his right knee.

Gillis said the full extent of the injury wouldn't be known until the operation but he said he did not think it was "major." He expects to be back on the court with his Indiana Elite team later this summer.

"It'll be fine," Gillis said via text.

Gillis also said Friday's surgery won't interrupt his plans to make an unofficial visit to Purdue on May 1.
