NCAA approves college basketball starting date

The NCAA Division I Council on Wednesday voted to set Nov. 25 as the official start date for the coming basketball season. That decision pushes the season back just over two weeks from its traditional start date.

The move was made in response to challenges related to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, and will now allow schools and, crucially, conferences to begin laying out a scheduling framework for the season ahead.

How individual schedules will be affected depends upon conference decisions. It’s been suggested in recent months that some conferences might consider league-only schedules, though nothing is set in stone.
