IU, Butler and Pacers are all in freefall at the same time -- for the same reason

INDIANAPOLIS – Hard to be happy around here this winter, isn’t it? No sun. Too damn cold. Plus we have another reason: We’re living in a basketball state with some seriously bad basketball.

Pacers, Hoosiers, Butler … hard times for a populace that puts so much of itself into its basketball teams, and is getting so little in return. As Butler’s LaVall Jordan was saying Wednesday night after the Bulldogs’ latest blowout loss, this one to Marquette in front of a nearly sold-out Hinkle Fieldhouse on a day so dangerously cold, classes were canceled on this same campus: “Our effort didn’t give to them as much as they gave to us.
