Insider: In midst of rough patch, Butler must restore its identity

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Butler lost a road game to a Big East colleague that has endured some excruciating defeats. In a long season, that is not alarming.

“You don’t have to be a college basketball savant to look at league play and know that teams get beat up across the board,” Butler coach Chris Holtmann said. “Teams go through difficult stretches.”

That is absolute truth, as far as it goes. The No. 21 Bulldogs, who not long ago were tied for first place, are in the midst of such a stretch after losing at Providence 71-65 Saturday.
