Insider: Freshmen provide defensive boost for Butler

INDIANAPOLIS — Butler’s basketball rise throughout the 2000s has resulted largely from stout defense. The Bulldogs have not stolen victories by stealing the ball, but by inducing bad shots and preventing offensive rebounds.

That is changing.

The Bulldogs are coming off two of their poorest defensive outings, so they will try to revert to the form that vaulted them to 15th in the USA Today Coaches' poll. They meet another defense-minded team, No. 23 Cincinnati, in a Top 25 matchup Saturday at Hinkle Fieldhouse.
