INDIANAPOLIS – There are myths about Butler basketball, and foremost among them is this:
The Bulldogs win despite little talent. They might be eternal Underdawgs, but they never won without talent. They have identified talent fitting the system and maximized what they had.
Yet navigating the one-and-done NCAA tournament is one thing. Playing such opponents once or twice a week, every week – as Butler must do in the Big East – is another.
It would overstating the case to assert it’s all about recruiting … but recruiting is a lot of it.
In two summers as head coach, Chris Holtmann has pursued, and received commitments from, more nationally ranked players than Butler has ever landed.
