Holtmann chides Bulldogs for 'immature approach' after upset loss at St. John's

Think this transition to Big East basketball hasn’t been hard for Butler?

The Bulldogs are 0-3 in Big East tournaments and 0-4 in conference openers.

Freshman guard Shamorie Ponds scored a career-high 26 points, and St. John’s rallied from a 10-point deficit to beat the 13th-ranked Bulldogs 76-73 Thursday night before a sellout crowd of 5,602 at Carnesecca Arena in Queens, N.Y.

The Red Storm went through all of last season with one Big East victory (1-17). Now they are 1-0.

Butler's Chris Holtmann acknowledged St. John's (7-7) is "markedly better." But he delivered what might have been the sharpest criticism of his own team in three years as coach, saying "a litany of things" went wrong.
