Hinkle Fieldhouse roof leaks, stops Butler basketball game in first half

A leaky roof at Hinkle Fieldhouse stopped play Wednesday night during the college basketball game between No. 12 Villanova and No. 19 Butler.

Play was halted with 13:02 left in the first half and the Bulldogs leading 13-9. After a 19-minute delay, the game resumed.

Water poured from the ceiling of the 92-year-old arena into the northeast corner of the court. The water collected in the out-of-bounds area but made conditions too unsafe to continue.

Referees conferred with Butler athletic director Barry Collier while workers mopped up the water. An announcement was made that the game would resume, but water continued to pour from the roof.
