Less than three weeks after former Butler big man Andrew Smith died after a lengthy battle with cancer, his former teammate, Emerson Kampen, lost his 6-month-old son to Leigh's disease.
Emerson Kampen IV was born in late June and diagnosed with Leigh's disease, a genetic disorder that affects the central nervous system, several weeks ago. He died early Monday morning.
"This is obviously an unspeakably difficult time for Emerson and Kylie," Butler coach Chris Holtmann told ESPN. "He has played a very important role in our program these last two years. We love them and simply want to support them in any way we can.
