INDIANAPOLIS — This 89-year-old basketball cathedral has seen nearly everything. But it had never seen this before:
The nation’s No. 1 college team showed up and was beaten.
Kethan Savage came off the bench to score 13 points, and freshman Kamar Baldwin made key plays down the stretch as No. 18 Butler defeated top-ranked Villanova 66-58 Wednesday night before a sellout crowd of 9,206 at Hinkle Fieldhouse.
Butler (13-2, 2-1 Big East) was 7-of-7 on free throws over the closing 1:46 to close it out. The Bulldogs outscored Villanova 15-6 in the final three minutes.
