Butler will travel to Lexington, Ky., for the opening games of the 2016 NCAA Tournament. The NCAA announced the 64-team field Sunday night with a nationally-televised selection show on ESPNU.
The Bulldogs will match up with Kentucky. The Wildcats (43-12) are the ninth overall seed in the tournament, hosting a regional that includes Butler, Utah (32-19) and Illinois (35-21). It is a double-elimination format with one team advancing to the Super Regional the following weekend.
Play will begin Friday in Lexington with game times and television assignments to be announced shortly.
"It was really neat to watch the team's reaction tonight and how they were able to celebrate with each other," said Butler coach Scott Hall.
