Despite a three-game series against Georgetown being washed out by rain in the nation's capital over the past week making field conditions unplayable, the Bulldogs were able to clinch a top-four finish in the BIG EAST and a spot in next weekend's BIG EAST Tournament.
Entering weekend action, the Bulldogs were tied with St. John's for third in the BIG EAST standings with a 9-7 record in league play. DePaul and Villanova had clinched two of the four spots prior to weekend play.
With Saturday's results that included DePaul beating Creighton twice and St. John's taking a doubleheader against Seton Hall, that meant that the Bluejays (now 7-10 in BIG EAST play) and Pirates (now 7-11 in BIG EAST play) are unable to close the gap on Butler and St.
