RIO DE JANEIRO — Rob Mullett left his hometown of Brighton, England, and enrolled at Butler University with a plan and a dream.
“I think I went to Butler wanting to make an Olympic team,” Mullett said. “And I kind of left thinking I can actually do that.”
The first sub-4-minute miler in Butler history made it onto that stage Monday morning, even if the exit was abrupt. He finished 12th in his heat of the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 8 minutes, 48.19 seconds and did not qualify for Wednesday’s final.
Mullett, 29, lives four blocks from the Butler campus and runs workouts sent by his British coach.
