Georgia Tech pursued, and was turned down by, Butler’s Chris Holtmann for its basketball coaching opening.
CBS’ Garry Parrish first reported Georgia Tech’s interest in Holtmann. That pursuit has been confirmed by IndyStar.
Georgia Tech’s athletic director, Mike Bobinski, was formerly AD at Xavier. He once lured another Butler coach, Thad Matta, to Xavier.
Holtmann, 44, has gone 45-22 in two years at Butler and won an NCAA tournament game each year. He took over as interim coach in October 2014 after Brandon Miller went on medical leave, and Holtmann stayed after Miller did not return.
