PHOENIX — In the aftermath of the death of close friend and former Butler teammate Andrew Smith, Chase Stigall didn’t know exactly what he could do to help the community or Andrew’s wife, Samantha — no one is ever quite prepared for a 25-year-old to die of cancer.
But what Stigall knew was that he needed to sign up for Be the Match, the nation’s bone marrow registry. So he did, while he was in Indianapolis for Andrew’s Celebration of Life service.
Three months later, in April 2016, Stigall got a call, telling him he could be a potential match and asking if he were willing to undergo further testing.
