Butler loses to Dayton for first time in more than 27 years

Never mind about the Big East. On Wednesday night, Butler could not beat a middle-of-the-road Atlantic 10 opponent on a neutral floor.

Dayton built a 15-point lead and went on to beat the Bulldogs 69-64 Wednesday in the first round of college basketball’s Battle 4 Atlantis at Paradise Island, Bahamas.

The game was not as close as the score reflects because the Flyers (4-0) outplayed and outworked Butler in every category. Dayton shot 54 percent to Butler’s 40.

The Bulldogs pulled within five points three times in the final minute after trailing 60-45 with less than 4 minutes left.
