INDIANAPOLIS – Butler, which has often won tournaments early in the college basketball season, went out early in the PK Invitational’s Motion bracket at Portland, Ore.
Texas limited the Bulldogs to 24 percent shooting in the first half, then went on a 14-4 run over the closing four minutes to win 61-48 Thursday night at Veterans Memorial Coliseum.
Butler (3-2) will meet Portland State (4-1) in the consolation bracket Friday at the Moda Center (3 p.m., ESPNU).
Andrew Jones scored 16 points and Tulane transfer Dylan Osetkowski 12 for Texas. Seven-foot freshman Mo Bamba had six points and 12 rebounds.
