3 reasons Butler basketball lost to Creighton: Droughts doom Dawgs in another tight defeat

Aaron Thompson lost the ball while trying to beat the buzzer, and Creighton held on for a 54-52 victory over Butler in Big East basketball Wednesday night at Omaha.

The Bulldogs (11-13, 4-9) have lost three in a row by two, three and two points. They meet No. 19 Marquette on Saturday at Hinkle Fieldhouse.

Freshman Ryan Nembhard scored with 26 seconds left to push the Bluejays ahead 53-52. Butler freshman Jayden Taylor missed a jump shot with 11 seconds left.

Nembhard was fouled and made the second of two free throws. After a Butler timeout, Thompson drove into the paint but could not get the ball over 7-1 center Ryan Kalkbrenner.
