Newcastle have asked Burnley about winger Maxwel Cornet but a compromise on price would need to be reached if a deal is to be agreed.
Sportsmail understands the Magpies are keen on the 25-year-old and a move is currently being explored, after a structured offer of £35million for Leicester's James Maddison was rejected.
However, they would prefer not to pay the entirety of Cornet's £17.5million release clause in one payment. It is thought that Burnley would accept closer to £25m over a longer period.
