Burnley recorded their third successive victory in league and cup and ended a dismal run of nine successive defeats after conceding first with a memorable win at Turf Moor.
Ollie Watkins put the visitors ahead in the 14th minute but Ben Mee equalised with a header in the 52nd minute.
Jack Grealish put Villa ahead for the second time in the 68th minute but Dwight McNeil's cross shot found the far corner eight minutes later.
Chris Wood secured victory with a deft header in the 79th minute.
