Brighton skipper Lewis Dunk evaded opposite man James Tarkowski to power a Pascal Gross corner in for the opener, but Burnley midfielder Johann Gudmundsson equalised after the break with a close-range rebounded effort.
The Clarets finished the match stronger but Graham Potter's side held out, meaning Burnley move nine points and Brighton 11 points clear of the relegation zone, with Fulham in 18th set to play West Ham later on Saturday.
