Although the Buffalo Sabres pulled out a win on Rasmus Ristolainen’s last-minute goal Saturday afternoon against the Vancouver Canucks, later in the evening, lots of their Atlantic Division brethren were not sharing any similar celebrations.
The Bruins, Panthers and Lightning all lost in regulation. The Senators and Maple Leafs gave up tying goals in the last five seconds – the first time that’s happened twice on the same night in the NHL since 2009 – and couldn’t grab the extra point.
The Montreal Canadiens are far and away the class of the division while Tampa Bay and Boston have emerged as big mysteries.
