Hockey is a sport that among fans, bloggers, reporters and even some teams within the league; vary on how they evaluate players. For the longest time, scoring production was always king when looking at statistics to determine how good a player was and how they should be valued in the NHL. The movement of analytics becoming more prevalent in the sport has caused a shift in player evaluation by some.
To be clear right off the top this isn’t a piece that is meant to cause a debate of analytics versus the “eye-test.” Everyone looks at the sport in different ways and that’s perfectly fine.
