Game Recap: Sabres Drop Opener to Canadiens in a Shootout

The Buffalo Sabres dropped the opening game of the season for the second straight year to the Montreal Canadiens. The game was closer, but the result the same. While it was a disappointing night, not everything was bad for the Sabres.

Sabres opened the scoring on the power play with Jason Pominville scoring to spark the home crowd. After some good pressure from Seth Griffith, he stole the puck from the Habs defender and fed a nice pass across to Pominville.

Late in the period, Ryan O’Reilly would have what would end up to be a costly turnover at his defensive blue line.
