Baptiste gets the first call-up

The Buffalo Sabres have called up forward Nicholas Baptiste for their three-game road trip that begins tomorrow at the Edmonton Oilers.

Baptiste played last night in Rochester, scoring once and assisting on another as the Amerks got their home opener off to a winning start, beating the Hershey Bears 5-4. Cole Schneider scored twice and had two assists as well.

With Evander Kane facing a few weeks on the sidelines, it was expected that the Sabres would call up a forward from the AHL. Baptiste had a strong training camp and even had a legitimate shout for making the Sabres roster, but was beaten to it by Derek Grant and Hudson Fasching.
