Every four years the MAC goes crazy.
In 2000, WMU out scored their opponents 33-11, and were 8-1 with wins over Iowa and Marshall, their only loss against Wisconsin. The Broncos fell to a 1-8 Central Michigan squad who’s only other MAC win was against, Akron.
Sound familiar?
In 2004, the first MAC Championship at Ford Field, Toledo avenged a previous loss at Miami, to beat the Redhawks in the Championship game. It was Toledo’s second championship and fifth championship game appearance in the eight year history of the MAC Championship game. Despite being consistently good for the next 12 years, Toledo never returned to the MAC Championship game.
