BUFFALO, NY – Former University at Buffalo men's soccer standout Russell Cicerone was selected by the Portland Timbers in the Fourth Round of the 2017 MLS SuperDraft on Tuesday afternoon. Being selected 76th overall, Cicerone becomes the first UB player in program history to be selected in the MLS draft.
"I am really excited to begin the next stage of my career with a fantastic organization like the Portland Timbers," stated Cicerone. "I'm ready to work hard and make all those who have supported me throughout my career proud."
Cicerone closed out his impressive UB career with his best season in 2016 as the Bloomfield Hills, MI native netted a career-high 14 goals, nine assists and 37 points as he led the MAC in all goals and points.
