NFL informs teams that salary cap will be at least $180 million in 2021

On Thursday, the NFL sent a memo to the league stating that the team salary cap would be at least $180 million in 2021. Earlier during the pandemic negotiations, the league and NFLPA had agreed on a $175 million salary cap floor, so this is obviously good news for teams around the league.

The move isn’t just because 2020 revenues were better than expected. As the league looks ahead to projected attendance figures and how lockdown restrictions are loosening amid the vaccination rollout, they see increased revenues in 2021 in comparison to 2020.

In the memo, the NFL was clear that $180 wasn’t the exact salary cap figure, just that it wouldn’t be lower than that.
