BUFFALO, N.Y. -- The owners of the Buffalo Bills and Buffalo Sabres have hired consulting and architectural firms to study the future needs of both teams' facilities, including determining whether to build a new NFL stadium to replace the Bills' 45-year-old New Era Field.
Pegula Sports and Entertainment chief operating officer Bruce Popko on Tuesday announced the study is required because both facilities, including the Sabres' 23-year-old KeyBank Center, "have fallen behind modern standards."
The study will be conducted by CAA ICON, a consulting firm, and Populous, an architectural firm.
The future of the Bills stadium, located in the Buffalo suburb of Orchard Park, New York, has become a major topic of discussion since Terry and Kim Pegula purchased the franchise in 2014 following the death of Hall of Fame owner Ralph Wilson.
