The Nets lost one of the few bright spots in a dismal season, when rookie Rondae Hollis-Jefferson was diagnosed with a broken ankle.
The injury happened Saturday in practice. X-rays taken Sunday came up negative, but Hollis-Jefferson was still sore Monday and had a CT scan that revealed a non-displaced fracture of the posterior talus in his right ankle.
He will have surgery in the next few days, after which a timeline for his return will be established.
Hollis-Jefferson is averaging 5.2 points, 6.1 rebounds (fourth among rookies), 1.4 assists and 1.4 steals (tops among rookies) in 22.
