Nets have figured out the secret to playing without top scorer

It was a victory Nets coach Kenny Atkinson said he will cherish, and for good reason.

On Wednesday night, his team toppled LeBron James and the talented Cavaliers without its leading scorer, D’Angelo Russell, to improve to 3-2 on the season and take over first place in the Atlantic Division.

“These type of wins, you feel good about your program,” Atkinson said afterward. “It’s a group effort.”

Though no one on his roster has ever been named an All-Star, Atkinson has several solid role players at his disposal. The rotation has been deep so far.

Through five games, the Nets have seven players averaging double-figures — D’Angelo Russell (23.
