Liberty wins first game, beats Washington Mystics, 74-66

Finally!

Amanda Zahui B. scored 14 points and grabbed 14 rebounds while Kia Nurse scored 17 points as the New York Liberty gave head coach Walt Hopkins his first career win with a 74-66 victory over the Washington Mystics Friday night.

Liberty players laid in wait for the coach to enter his “wubble” locker room in Bradenton, Florida. It wasn’t quite Gatorade, but the sentiment was the same. After five losses, not to mention the loss of overall No. 1 pick, Sabrina Ionescu to an ankle sprain, everyone had a right to celebrate .
