Nets News: Nets' local television viewership dips dramatically

In Nets news tonight, the Brooklyn Nets were the victim of an ongoing trend with big-market NBA teams, suffering a dramatic drop in television viewership during the 2013-14 NBA season.

Per John Ourand and John Lombardo of Sports Business Daily, "Nets ratings on YES Network dropped 20 percent, to a 0.77 rating."

However, this didn't even qualify as the biggest drop in New York, as the New York Knicks suffered a 29% viewership decrease, posting a 2.18 rating average for the season.

This falls into a trend in big-market viewership problems for the NBA this season, as "the league heading into the final days of its regular season last week (was) on pace to post audience declines in six of its eight biggest markets," according to Ourand and Lombardo.

The only two teams in those eight markets ( Chicago and Los Angeles saw major drops as well) to post gains in viewership were the Golden State Warriors (plus 11,000 households per game) and the Dallas Mavericks (plus 8,000).
