St. Mary’s pulled away from Bowling Green State University in the second half and earned a 76-67 victory over the Falcons in the semifinal round of the Women’s Basketball Invitational in Lexington, Ky., on Saturday.
St. Mary’s held a 32-31 lead at halftime, but a 28-18 third-quarter margin favored the Gaels, and the Falcons could not overcome the deficit. The closest margin BGSU pulled to in the fourth quarter was eight points, with 7:59 remaining.
Amy Velasco had 16 points to lead BGSU, but she did so on just 4 of 14 shooting. She made all six free-throw attempts.
