Last-second shot off mark as BGSU women fall to Northern Illinois

DeKALB, Ill. — Kenzie Lewis missed a last-second, go-ahead shot attempt, and the Bowling Green State University women’s basketball team lost to Mid-American Conference rival Northern Illinois 79-78 on Wednesday at the NIU Convocation Center.

The Falcons trailed by four points, 77-73, with 59 seconds remaining in regulation as Lexi Fleming sank a pair of free throws. NIU’s Mikayla Brandon made a pair of her own free throws to extend her team’s lead to 79-73 with 41 seconds left. Kadie Hempfling made a 3-pointer to bring Bowling Green to a three-point deficit with 30 seconds left.

With two seconds remaining, NIU’s Chelby Koker received a technical foul, and Fleming made both free throws with BGSU retaining possession, before Lewis’ attempt at a game winner was off line.
