Genoa graduate Bench's position swap already paying off for BGSU football

BOWLING GREEN — Bowling Green State University quarterback Matt McDonald has a new weapon.

During the offseason, Andrew Bench was approached with a proposition. He spent the 2020 season working as a defensive lineman, but head coach Scot Loeffler saw potential in the Genoa graduate as a tight end.

“I think we made a good decision by moving him over,” Loeffler said. “Our defensive line is extremely talented, and he would have played on defense, there's no question about it, but we had a hole [at tight end] to fill. He’s a true ‘Y,’ and his body type fits.
