Game day updates: Bowling Green 10, Akron 0 — 2nd quarter

BOWLING GREEN — Favored in a game for the first time since Nov. 2019, Bowling Green took advantage of holes in Akron’s defense in taking a 10-0 lead at the end of the first quarter.

The Falcons (2-3) received the ball to start the game and promptly went on an eight-play, 75-yard drive and went up 7-0 as quarterback Matt McDonald connected with Tyrone Broden for a 40-yard touchdown strike up the right seam with 11:53 left in the first quarter.

BGSU’s defense forced a three-and-out and the Falcons marched into the red zone, but had to settle for a 35-yard field goal by Nate Needham to go up 10-0 with 5:45 left in the quarter.
