BOWLING GREEN — For the flyer they took on a thirty-something coach no one knew, Nick Saban has never forgotten.
Neither has Urban Meyer.
When I told Meyer that his old rival — and 2025 College Football Hall of Fame classmate — once said he treasures his first team at Toledo above all the champions he built later, the coach knew exactly what Saban meant.
Meyer, 61, will return to Doyt Perry Stadium on Thursday night as one of the true legends of the fall, a three-time national champion who conquered the sport’s biggest stages.
But for all the success, he uniquely cherishes the place where it all began.
