Briggs: A dark day for Bowling Green hockey leaves more questions than answers

BOWLING GREEN — The storm rolled in out of nowhere Monday afternoon, like a thunderclap in the sun.

One moment, the forecast for Bowling Green State University hockey program mirrored the bright campus sky.

The Falcons earlier in the day were picked to finish third in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association, and junior forward Austen Swankler — one of the top stars in the nation — was named the conference’s preseason player of the year.

Optimism was high.

Then, none of that mattered.

Just after lunch, we got the news that rocked Bowling Green and stunned the college hockey community.
