Bowling Green men dodge poor shooting to win fourth straight game

BOWLING GREEN — On a day when open shots just weren’t falling for Bowling Green, the Falcons ground their way to contention — and finally hit a big shot when it mattered.

The Falcons shot a woeful 32.8 percent from the floor Saturday at the Stroh Center, but used defense, rebounds, and free throws to eek out a 66-64 victory against visiting Northern Illinois.

BG’s two leading scorers, Justin Turner and Dylan Frye, combined to go just 5-for-24 from the field, but both hit clutch 3-pointer deep in the second half to take the lead.

Frye broke a 62-62 deadlock with a triple from the left corner with 49 seconds to play, then Turner grabbed a defensive rebound on the next possession and made two free throws to help BG (13-5, 4-1 Mid-American Conference) win its fourth consecutive game.
